Let's Reflect
With the school year ending, now is a great chance to take a few minutes and reflect on your goals. Taking the time to analyze what worked and what didn’t is an important skill. It promotes growth in not just executive function (EF) skills but also in self-reflection and evaluation. In the EF world, we call that metacognition. Here are some ways to measure your growth:
What goals did you meet?
Take some time to really think about if you met your specific goal. Make sure your goals are written down and be honest if you achieved the full goal.
What worked well?
Look at your goal and the steps you took to achieve it. Which actions helped you? What about those actions worked, and dig deeper to understand why.
What obstacles did you face?
It’s possible you didn’t meet all of the goals you set for yourself this year. What barriers prevented you from meeting them? Were your goals too ambitious, or not specific enough? Dig deeper to better understand yourself, the challenges you’ve faced, and how you might find a solution next year.
What next?
Begin thinking about what goals you can continue to work on over the summer and what needs to be tweaked for the next school year. It’s important to build upon the momentum and success you achieved and continue to set realistic and achievable goals in the upcoming weeks and months.
The summer is a great time to practice specific skills in a more relaxed setting without the pressure of schoolwork. Take a look at our Summer Programs to learn more about goal setting and how to work on EF skills in an engaging way!
