Finding Motivation

Whether you’re in-person learning or learning remotely, the winter months can be some of the most difficult times to stay motivated and push through to the end of the school year. Need a mindset refresh? Follow these steps to help yourself build motivation and end the academic year strong.

1. Remember Your “Why.”

When we feel overwhelmed, it’s easy to get lost in the present and forget the big picture. When you find yourself struggling to start your homework, take a step back and remind yourself of your long-term goals. Zoom a couple years ahead – where do you want to be? How can graduating high school, learning in class, and submitting your homework help you make that happen?

2. Celebrate!

It can be difficult to get started when our long-term goals feel so far away. Break your larger goal down into smaller steps and reward yourself at important milestones – a solid test score or hitting your GPA goals. Taking time to revel in your accomplishments can build your confidence and increase your motivation to keep going!

3. Get help.

Sometimes you need a little more support to achieve your goals. That’s when friends, family, and other supporters can help remind you about your bigger picture goals. Often they can support you in finding a way to move forward.
