Organization is in Your Hands!
Craving some organization? No need for an expensive trip to The Container Store -- organize your phone with just a few taps!
App Organization
For apps you access frequently, such as your calendar or alarm, place them front and center on your home screen.
If you’re no longer using an app, consider deleting it to free up some storage for another song or two.
Purposeful Pauses
For apps you’re hoping to use less of, hide them in folders so you have to hunt for them, or just delete them altogether. Adding barriers to logging onto social media or other time-sucking apps adds a natural pause between you and the eternal scroll.
Use that little pause to bring your attention to the fact that you’re in a moment of transition. Check in with your brain and body and think about if there are any physical or mental needs you could meet for yourself. Are you hungry? Does your brain need stimulation? Does your body need to move?
You can choose to engage in something that will feel refreshing -- a break for movement, stretching, nourishment or hydration. Return to your list fresh and ready to choose what to do next with intention.
Digital Calendars
Assuming you bring your phone everywhere, you can do the same with your calendar! Never miss an appointment or double-book because you left your paper calendar at home. Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar are easy to link with your email, share with friends/family and color-code to meet your visual needs. Set notifications, add details (links, events specifics or coupon codes) and use recurring events to streamline planning.
Really love your paper calendar? Keep everything in your digital calendar and then at the beginning of the week, write out your schedule for the next few days on paper. This will help you think through anything you need to do to prepare for events coming up and you can add or remove anything as you’re contemplating your week.
Use Widgets
Android users and iPhone users with iOS-8 or newer: take your phone organization to the next level. Here are some helpful iPhone Widgets for your organization and planning:
Calendar: This Widget will show your upcoming events without even opening the application itself so they are right in front of you all the time.
Notes: Display things like your “Grocery List” on your home screen so that you can see it right away and/or add to it with just one tap.
Reminders: Set this widget to display a list of the day’s reminders to reference throughout your day.
