Creating A Landing Pad At Home

Feel like you are always looking for your keys?  Is your student calling you to bring their cleats to school because they left them in their room?  Did you constantly find your child’s agenda book on the floor of the car?  If you can relate to any of these situations, your family would benefit from a landing pad!  A landing pad is just what it sounds like, a place you and your children can leave bags, keys, chargers, etc., and know just where they are the next time you are looking for them.  Here are 3 steps to help make a landing pad in your home:

  1. Determine the items that need a place to safely land.  This includes keys, chargers, sport bags, backpacks, shoes, or permission slips.

  2. Choose the right location.  If you always leave the house by the garage door, set the landing pad up in the area.  Keep it in sight and introduce it to your family.

  3. Make it make sense.  Use baskets, hooks, trays, and cubbies to help you keep the space organized and find the items easily.

Added Tip: Place a packing list/todo list, your family calendar, bulletin board, or a whiteboard in the landing pad to create a one-stop-shop and improve communication in the home.
