Back-to-School for College Students
The end of July can be both an exciting and nerve wracking time for incoming college freshmen as they are about to embark on a big life change! Here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind and you start preparing for your move to campus:
Attend orientation activities! Most universities will host lots of required and optional orientation activities leading up to the start of the semester. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and get more comfortable with the campus.
Do a test run (or walk) of your first day of classes. A few days before the semester starts take some time to walk your class schedule, make sure you know where your classrooms are so you aren’t late on your first day.
Review your syllabi! It is important that you take time to review your syllabi for each of your classes prior to the first day. This is your contract for the class and lays out your professor’s expectations for the course.
After you are done reviewing your course syllabi, make sure you enter in all your course assignments/due dates into your calendar. Doing at the beginning of the semester will ensure that you aren’t missing any deadlines later in the semester.
Make sure you have connected with the disability support office and your accommodations have been approved and you understand the process.
